Flash cards allow you to memorize words from a story's glossary.

1. Starting flash cards

There are two ways to start a flash card session:

The first way is from a story card (figure 1). Click on the green 'Flash cards' button and select either 'Jazyk's glossary' or 'My glossary' from the dropdown list.

The difference between the two is that the first option uses all the words in the glossary with the default translations provided while the second option uses only the words you have pinned to your glossary with optionally your own translations.

The second way is to start a flash card session from the glossary itself (figure 2) by clicking on the green 'Flash cards' button in the top right corner. This will start a flash card session from the default glossary provided by Jazyk with the default translations.

If you want to start a flash card session only with the words you pinned to your glossary, go to your own glossary by clicking on the 'My words' tab. Then click on the green 'My flash cards' button in the top right corner (figure 3).

You will see a countdown (which can be disabled in the settings) before the first flash card is shown.

2. Using flash cards

A flashcard (figure 4) shows a word from the story. Click on a play button to hear an audio recording of that word. If there are multiple play buttons, that means that there are audio recordings created by different people. Below the word you can see the word type, such as personal pronoun, verb, adjective, adverb etc. You may also see the genus behind the word if applicable.

Below the card you can see a button 'Retrieve sentences'. Click on this button to see the words in context; it will show you all the sentences in which this word is used in the story (figure 5).

Now, think of a proper translation for this word and click on the card to turn it over. You now see the reverse side (figure 6) with the translation provided either by Jazyk's glossary or the translation from your own glossary, depending on how you started the flash card session (see above).

Note that unlike in the example provided in figure 6, Jazyk's default glossary usually does not provide all possible translations, but only those applicable to the context of the story which you are currently using.

Below the reverse side of the flash card you now see two large buttons: 'Yes' and 'No'. If you had the correct translation in mind, click on 'Yes' (or press the '1' key); otherwise click on 'No' (or press the '3' key). If you answered 'No', you will receive the card again at the end of the session. The same card will be shown a maximum of three times per session.

Clicking on either of those two buttons will bring you to the next card.

3. Results page

Once you've gone through ten (or less if there are less than 10 translated words available in the glossary) you will see the results page. It is divided into several sections:

Flash card results: The flash card results section shows a list of all the flash cards shown during the session with your answers (figure 7).

Points: Below the results list you can see the points you have earned during the session.

Next step: At the bottom of the results page are several action buttons (figure 8). The first blue button starts a new session of flash cards from the same glossary. The second blue button brings you back to the list with all the stories while the green button brings you straight to the story card for this particular story.
